There is more to running minibuses than many schools realise. A Section 19 Permit (to operate minibuses without a commercial operator’s license) has several requirements including 10-week safety inspections and daily checks. There are also several grey areas in the law surrounding minibus management that require consideration.
Castle Minibus launched the MCC in 2018 and has received average scores of 9/10 from the 500+ schools who’ve attended. Approved by RoSPA and written in consultation with a former senior traffic commissioner the course is split into four sections.
The legal minefield: Guiding you through permits, licences and who is responsible for compliance
Vehicles: Driving a minibus and the challenges teachers/drivers face. Required daily checks and safety inspections
Drivers: Driver management and their responsibilities
The journey: Planning journeys and emergency protocols.
Now available online, the course can be completed by staff in their own time -with engaging quizzes and downloadable certificates for each section. Suitable for drivers, teachers, governors and heads the course explains Section 19 requirements and gives best practice advice where the law is unclear. Just £195 (plus VAT) for access for four staff members or £395 (+VAT) for unlimited staff numbers, both for 12 months.
