The government’s academisation agenda means many schools are currently looking to convert to academy status, providing new potential for achieving efficiencies and for collaboration.
The process of conversion is time-consuming and requires a great deal of planning and preparation in addition to the time required for the actual conversion period, which our practitioners estimate to be around 6 months (with around 18 months of planning prior to this).
This webpage provides guidance for School Business Leaders who are seeking support when converting to academy status.
ISBL academy conversion guidance
In collaboration with NAHT and The Key, and supported by Forbes Solicitors, NASBM developed a guide to the academy conversion process, which now forms part of our ISBL guidance.
The guidance includes a academy conversion timeline, representing the stages our members have been through during recent academy conversions. From application through to completion stage, the resource provides a list of the steps needed to convert to academy status, including the smaller steps through to larger changes in systems and processes, as well as case studies and a workforce deployment tool.
Collaboration and efficiency
Academy conversion provides a collaboration avenue, and also a vehicle for finding efficiencies. The ISBL Member Library houses guidance on collaboration and emerging school structures. NASBM also produced another factsheet on financial health and efficiency, which now forms part of our ISBL guidance.
