New National School Awards 2019 launched!

ISBL is pleased to announce the reintroduction of an annual awards ceremony that will celebrate and promote the excellent work taking place within schools across the country.

These new joint awards are brought to you by ISBL and the Schools & Academies Show, and the inaugural awards will take place on the evening of 13 November at the NEC in Birmingham. The event will celebrate the best and brightest practitioners, schools and multi-academy trusts (MATs) from across the country, with six hotly contested awards presented, as follows:

  • School business leader of the year: an exceptional school business leader who has radically reinvented the perception of the traditional school business professional within not just their own setting but across their local region and is a trailblazer for projecting professionalism

  • Income innovator of the year: an individual or school that is breaking the mould, tackling the issue of closing the funding gap in new and ingenious ways, driving significant additional revenue into their school and making the funds that they have available work harder and go further

  • Leadership team of the year: a school that demonstrates joined-up leadership across pedagogy, school business and governance with the development of a clear and deliverable strategic plan. The winner will be able to demonstrate the impact that they make in securing the sustainability of the school whilst ensuring pupil outcomes

  • School infrastructure innovation of the year: a school that has delivered significant improvements across its infrastructure – for example new capital build projects and ICT – showing they have met the changing needs of the pupils and staff and are delivering the curriculum more effectively

  • MAT of the year: a MAT that can demonstrate innovation and imagination in the methods used to deliver its effective MAT structure whilst ensuring pupil outcomes across all schools, and

  • School of the year: a school that has delivered huge improvements for its pupils’ outcomes, overcome a challenging period or simply worked tirelessly to ensure the successful running of the school and positive wellbeing of the staff and pupils.

Entry requirements

Entry for the awards is free. We know that schools are time-poor, so we have developed a simple online nomination form that captures the nominee’s details, reasons for the nomination and evidence, plus details about the nominator.

The awards aim to celebrate the achievements made during the current academic year (2018/19) and are open to all state schools, academies, MATs and independent schools from across the country.

Nominations can be made via the Schools & Academies website (, so please visit for more information on each of the award categories and to make your nomination. The closing date for applications is Friday 27 September 2019.

The three finalists from each category will be notified in October 2019 and invited to attend the awards ceremony and the Schools & Academies Show in Birmingham as VIP guests.
