There has been a recent successful prosecution of an Academy Trust for breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Sections 2(1) and 3(1), for carrying out poorly planned and managed refurbishment and maintenance works.
Managing a building is not a responsibility to be taken lightly. There is a real risk that lack of knowledge, experience and processes can put lives at risk, with those responsible facing prosecution, or worse, a prison term.
It is often not clear who in educational premises are responsible for compliance-related issues. Where does responsibility start and end? Is it all down to the headteacher? What about the premises manager (if you have one), bursar or business manager? What is the responsibility of the board of trustees or governors? Has the necessary training been provided to staff?
This one day event will provide a unique insight and help you to consider whether your organisation has all the necessary procedures in place and that they are followed.

The Professional Clerking Programme
The Professional Clerking Programme is a new, nationally available development opportunity designed for those working in a clerking role. The whole programme is focused on the DfE Clerking Competency Framework, and so applicable for clerks in all educational settings. The two face-to-face workshops with an experienced facilitator and eight modules focus on the development of clerking competencies.
It develops the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to provide professional clerking to the governing boards of maintained schools, academies and multi-academy trusts. Read the competency framework here.

Level 5 Certificate in Human Resources for School Business Professionals
The CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) working in partnership with ISBL is pleased to announce the availability of a specially constructed and contextualised Level 5 programme for school business professionals. It’s an innovative course, the first of its kind in the UK and is ideal for school business professionals with responsibility for HR and people development. The programme should also be considered by school business professionals who aspire to develop a specialist HR role in the future.
The qualification includes six modules studied over 12 months via classroom training, webinars and workbooks
Attendance in all webinars and workshops is compulsory.
