Statutory Compliance in Education Buildings

There has been a recent successful prosecution of an Academy Trust for breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Sections 2(1) and 3(1), for carrying out poorly planned and managed refurbishment and maintenance works.

Managing a building is not a responsibility to be taken lightly. There is a real risk that lack of knowledge, experience and processes can put lives at risk, with those responsible facing prosecution, or worse, a prison term.

It is often not clear who in educational premises are responsible for compliance-related issues. Where does responsibility start and end? Is it all down to the headteacher? What about the premises manager (if you have one), bursar or business manager? What is the responsibility of the board of trustees or governors? Has the necessary training been provided to staff?

This one day event will provide a unique insight and help you to consider whether your organisation has all the necessary procedures in place and that they are followed.

This event is vital for those responsible for premises management, including head teachers, school bursars, business managers, premises managers, members of the board of trustees/governing body, facilities managers, or anyone else with responsibilities for, or an oversight of, compliance issues within education buildings.

Good Estate Management in Education Premises

This event is vital for those responsible for premises management, including head teachers, school bursars, business managers, premises managers, members of the board of trustees/governing body, facilities managers, or anyone else with responsibilities for, or an oversight of, educational establishments.

The event will cover areas such as:

  • how to prioritise and implement an effective maintenance regime, including ensuring that both revenue and capital issues are taken into consideration
  • running costs
  • energy management
  • performance management
  • third party use of buildings, including the legal and financial implications.
