Role Description


Training and development

  • Attend and successfully complete induction training.  Please note that some training may be face to face with the remainder via WebEx.

  • Complete a Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement during first year of assessment if you do not already have a qualification in assessment -qualification will be paid for by EPAO.


Assessment activities


Simulated Task – per learner:

  • Review learners task immediately after they have completed it online via Skilsure(15 mins). 

  • Receive oral report of simulated task by learner (via Skype/WebEx) (10 mins (+/-1 min)

  • Ask clarification questions (10 -12 mins)

  • Assess simulated task, presentation and response to Q&A as a distinction/pass/fail


Project Report & Presentation – per learner:

  • Review formal written report on workplace project(s) prior to date of learner’s presentation, accessed via Skilsure.

  • Review eportfolio prior to learner’s presentation (accessed via Skilsure) to identify key areas not covered by the simulated task and workplace project.  Prepare questions based on the key areas not covered.

  • Using Skype/WebEx, assess the learner’s presentation on their workplace project and report.  Learner presentation should last 10 -12 mins.

  • Conduct a Q&A session immediately after learner’s presentation for 10 mins related directly to the 2 areas of the SBPA Standard that the workplace project was based on but may also include questions about the following areas: project management, change management, communication and relationship building, decision maker.  Follow this with questions prepared earlier on the areas of the Standard not covered by the workplace project or report.  5 mins per area of the standard (15 mins max)

  • Assess project report, presentation and response to Q&A as a distinction/pass/fail.



  • Complete the assessment of resits for either or both the simulated task and project report and presentation as appropriate.


Quality Assurance – Lead Assessors:

  • Undertake moderation of assessment activities after each cohort EPA

  • Provide feedback to assessors on moderation activities, highlighting good practice and opportunities for development


Quality Assurance – Assessors:

  • Contribute to CQI procedures including moderation activities and act upon the recommendations of the Lead Assessor regarding areas for development.

  • Attend 2 x standardisation meetings per annum (skype/WebEx).


Further Tasks:

  • Upload assessment for simulated task and project report and presentation to Skilsure.


Data Protection

  • Have regard to current legislation and will, at all times, bear in mind responsibilities under the relevant Acts. Attention is specifically drawn to the need for confidentiality in handling personal data and the implications of unauthorised disclosure.

Qualifications and Experience

Have 5 years’ experience of working in leadership and management in an educational organisational setting and/or hold a leadership and management qualification, at a minimum of level 5 and/or a qualification in School Business Management, at a minimum of a level 5



Hold a recognised assessment qualification or be willing to complete a qualification and/or complete the SBPA assessment training



Have membership of a  professional institute or association appropriate to the level and subject area of the qualification



Skills and Abilities

Manage technical aspects of recording students’ assessment



Demonstrate high-level verbal communication skills and ability to interview students and provide feedback via face to face/telephone/webex



Manage time effectively and be well organised and focused, particularly when working under pressure



Demonstrate the analytical skills to deal with ambiguity and uncertainty, recognise patterns and identify emerging issues



Display the ability to work closely and collaboratively with others



Have a strong understanding of the diverse responsibilities of a school business professional within an educational organisation

Conflict of Interest

Facilitators and coaches delivering the SBPA for Serco Education are not eligible to undertake the role of SBPA end point assessor
