ISBL Trustee

Hours: Voluntary, 4 Board meetings, 2–4 Subcommittee meetings per year
Closing Date: 01/08/2022

Do you want to make a difference and influence the business of Education in our schools and academies as an ISBL trustee?

As the professional body for school business leaders, the Institute of School Business Leadership (ISBL) is uniquely positioned to support and influence the development of practice and thought leadership within the school system.

We are seeking applications from individuals who have the desire and motivation to support us with our vision and values to join the Board of Trustees and bring their unique skills, talents, and commitment to influence the future direction of the business, education policy and practice within the school business leadership profession. We would like to increase the breadth, diversity, and range of expertise and want our Board of Trustees to reflect the diversity of our profession. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, especially from under-represented groups, including people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities. We also welcome applications from practitioners in the primary or special school sector where we would like greater representation and those with a strong background in either the finance or legal professions. Also, given the commitment to a fully trust-led system in the recently published schools white paper “Opportunity for all”, we are keen to hear from leaders or trustees from multi-academy trusts (MATs).

Our vision is “To see school business professionals having the greatest positive impact on our education system”, and as such we are committed to the further development and provision of opportunities for professional development, training, qualifications, and support to equip school business leadership practitioners with the skills and competencies needed to make the UK Education system a world leader.

Over recent years, we have developed a set of sector-recognised Professional Standards for school business management practice. In partnership with other stakeholders, we have developed a portfolio of professional development opportunities ranging from webinars, expert talks and workshops through to apprenticeships and professional qualifications. We continue to collaborate and build relationships with local school business leadership groups and work in partnership with other key sector stakeholders. We are also proud to work on other opportunities such as the CFO Mentoring and School Resource Management Adviser (SRMA) programmes. In addition, we run regional conferences alongside our annual national conference where we provide professional development opportunities and showcase best practice.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside a group of dedicated and highly skilled trustees and ISBL staff to help formulate the ideas about how we as an institute can best address the challenges and opportunities that exist in an increasingly complex and changing environment.

If you feel you have skills, time, and energy to commit to the development of the Institute and influence the delivery of school business practice within the education system, we would love to hear from you.

To learn more about the role and to express your interest, please contact Matt Burrell [email protected] or Stephen Lester [email protected]. To apply, please provide a current CV and a Supporting Statement by 1 August 2022.

We expect to review applications during the summer and into early September and, therefore, will be in touch week beginning 19 September or before.
