Purpose of the role:

Manage the planning, development and delivery of the business management functions within the school. The business functions are Financial Resource Management/Administration Management/Management Information and ICT/Human Resource Management /Facility & Property Management/ Health & Safety Management of the School

The post holder would be a member of the senior leadership and work as an equivalent to an Assistant Headteacher.

Main responsibilities:

Ø  Responsible for the management, deployment and delivery of business management functions within the school including business policy implementation

Ø  Responsible for the financial management of school resources including working with the Headteacher in budget planning and forecasting

Ø  Responsible for the creation and implementation of recruitment, induction, training and mentoring systems for all staff

Ø  Line management and performance appraise all staff within the business management functions

Ø  Responsible for safer recruitment polices and implementation for all staff in the setting

Ø  Responsible with the safeguarding lead for maintaining an accurate single central record

Ø  Responsible for sourcing additional income through applying for grants and capital funds

Ø  Negotiate, manage and monitor contracts and services on behalf of the school

Ø  Ensure an up-to-date contract register is in place and monitored

Ø  Responsible for the development of H&S within the school

Ø  Responsible for the management of facilities, including refurbishment, statutory compliance and income generated through premises

Ø  Ensure an up-to-date asset plan is in place for buildings and IT

 

Ø  Work with senior leadership colleagues to lead and/or manage change in accordance with the School Development Plan and other strategic plans

Ø  Responsible for the development and delivery of H&S across the school

Ø  Responsible for the management of facilities, including refurbishment projects, statutory compliance and safeguarding aspects of the site

Ø   Generate additional income for the school through lettings, bids and grants

Ø  Negotiate, manage and monitor contracts and services on behalf of the school

Ø  Attend Finance, Pay and Premises Committee meetings to provide detailed business management updates which form part of the governor minutes, advise, support and accept challenge as appropriate

Ø  Deliver the marketing and communication strategies for the school

Ø  Develop professional business manager communities through ongoing collaboration and networking

Individuals in this role may also undertake some or all of the following:

Ø  Manage the delivery of extended services activities

Ø  Line management and performance appraisal of other staffing teams such as Breakfast and Afterschool Clubs

 

Ø  Validate information for publications and returns for the DfE, ESFA, LA and other agencies and stakeholders within statutory guidelines

Ø  Advise senior leadership team colleagues on risk management within the school, mitigating risks to the delivery of strategic objectives

 

Ø  Reporting at FGB meetings

Knowledge and skills:

Experience in leading and managing teams and resources

Working at least at the level of Tier 3 of the ISBL Professional Standards

Completed or working towards Level 5 Diploma in School Business Management Good knowledge of ICT systems (word, power point, Excel. SIMS)

Minimum Level 2 qualification in Maths and English (GCSE or equivalent)

NVQ level 5 minimum (or equivalent) desirable

Level 1 Safeguarding (induction, training and regular updates will be provided)

 

The duties and responsibilities listed above describe the post as it is at present.  The post holder is expected to accept any reasonable alterations that may from time to time be necessary. 

This role will be reviewed annually as part of the school’s performance management process.
