Learning Outcomes
As Operational Excellence is a specialist discipline, the training must be completed in order up to the desired level:
6 week programme
Total of 1 days face-to-face training
The Associate level training will focus on the following modules:

6 month programme
Total of 3 days face-to-face training (including Associate level)
The Lead level training will focus on the following modules:

11. Process Mapping
12 month programme
Total of 5 days face-to-face training (including Associate and Lead level)
The Strategic level training will focus on the following modules:

About the training

OpEx for education has been developed to deal with the resource challenges faced by the sector and is in line with Department for Education and Treasury thinking in relation to efficiencies, new technologies and policy direction.
ISBL has invested in sector specific research and published a contextualised framework for schools and trusts (click here for more information). ISBL has refined it’s approach with consultation and an extensive pilot project to bring you educationally contextualised training to aide you in applying OpEx tools and techniques.
All of our existing (and future) programmes symbiotically and holistically support each other in helping your organisation (whether a school or trust) become operationally excellent AND support you and your colleagues on professional pathways to become operationally efficient,

All training is delivered face-to-face in either central London or Retford, Nottinghamshire (see booking dates below for specific venues). As detailed above:
Associate level training is 1 day (with 6 weeks to evidence impact following the training).
Lead level is an additional 2 days, following completion of the Associate level training (with 8-12 weeks to evidence impact following the training).
Strategic level is an additional 2 days, following completion of both the Associate and Lead level training (with 6 weeks to evidence impact following the training.

You can gain formal accreditation at each level of the programme. On completion of the training, you will be required to evidence how you have implemented some of the tools and techniques to solve a problem and evidence impact. This is not an overly onerous process, however is a pre-requisite for completion before you progress to the next stage of the programme.

This training is suitable for SBPs, CFOs, COOs and/or those who work in operations in a school or across a trust central team. See table below for details on who each level of training is suitable for.

Yes. in order to achieve Strategic level accreditation then Associate and Lead training will need to be completed first with and accreditation achieved at each level. Similarly to claim Lead level accreditation, you will have needed to complete Associate level training and gained accreditation at this level.

There is an ISBL member rate and a non-member rate for all our training programmes. All rates quoted below are inclusive of VAT and per person:
Associate Level (1 day including accreditation)

ASSOCIATE LEVEL TRAINING
Training will also run on 27th January 2026 and 17th March 2026 (locations to be confirmed)
LEAD LEVEL TRAINING
You can only access and book onto Lead level training if you have been accredited at Associate level and have an access code.
Training will also run on 20th & 21st January 2026 and 10th & 11th March 2026 (locations to be confirmed)
STRATEGIC LEVEL TRAINING
You can only access and book onto Strategic level training if you have been accredited at Lead level and have an access code.
Training will also run on 13th & 14th January 2026 and 25th & 26th March 2026 (locations to be confirmed)
