Robin Bevan
PATRON
Robin Bevan is Headteacher at Southend High School for Boys – an ‘outstandingly successful’ school – appointed in September 2007. He is a Patron of the Institute of School Business Leadership.
Robin also serves as an elected member of the National Executive of the new National Education Union. He has been an influential national campaigner on funding, workload and pay. In February 2018, he was elected as national vice-president of the Association of Teachers & Lecturers. He retains this role, through amalgamation into the NEU, during 2018-2020; and in 2020/21, serves as National President of the National Education Union.
He has a strong commitment to evidence-based practice: applying educational research into the classroom to enhance learning. He completed his doctorate at the University of Cambridge in conjunction with the ESRC’s Teaching & Learning Research Programme; and is a founding fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching. A regular presenter in workshops and conferences: he has developed approaches on organisational leadership that have been transformational in school culture.
Robin is a cycling enthusiast, commuter, competitor and coach: he has previously competed in the national student time-trial championships, in the Tour des Alpes, and won several local championship titles. He has been a mentor for young riders, many of whom have competed for Great Britain – securing national, European and world championship titles.
